Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis)

In some people, the body’s mechanism for cooling itself down is over active- so over active that they may sweat four or five times more than is necessary, or normal. When sweating is this extreme it can be embarrassing, uncomfortable, anxiety inducing and life inhibiting.  It can disrupt all aspects of a person’s life, from career choices and recreational activities to relationships, emotional wellbeing and self-image.  This kind of excessive sweating is a medical condition called Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis has – quite understandably – a significant impact on quality of life. It can restrict choice of clothing and affect relationships. Many find the problem embarrassing and may avoid certain social situations as a result.

BTX-A is a well known treatment for managing Hyperhidrosis and the most common areas treated are armpits and palms. Although one cannot guarantee resolution of the problem, in our experience, we have had great success with this treatment. It is difficult to predict duration of benefit in any given patient.

BTX-A (Anti Wrinkle Injections)

Botulinum Toxin-A (e.g. Botox or Bocouture) remains the number one anti-ageing treatment, primarily used for PREVENTION & TREATMENT of lines & wrinkles. We aim to give you a natural result; we do not support the frozen look. We also use this for other conditions eg excessive armpit sweating, TMJ pain.  A safe and effective product used by millions of patients. In our experience, “Botox” is still very misunderstood, even amongst patients who have been having it for some years. We often hear in consultation that “no-one has ever told me that when I have had Botox before!” Let us introduce you to a truly expert approach to this popular treatment.

Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis) FAQs

What do I do before the BTX-A treatment?

  • Please shave underarms and avoid using over the counter antiperspirants or deodorants 24 hours before.
  • It is advisable to avoid aspirin and non-steroidal medication, vitamin E, gingko biloba and St. John’s Wort for at least 24 hours prior to treatment as these may increase the risk of bleeding and bruising.
  • If you have been prescribed aspirin for a medical reason, it is best to continue this. If you have a bleeding disorder, or are taking Warfarin, discuss this with the nurse prior to receiving botulinum treatment.
  • Wear a dark, loose top, preferably an old one to the appointment. You may bleed a little and iodine may stain clothing.

What does the BTX-A treatment involve?

The Doctor will first identify where the sweat glands are most active. Injections are spaced approximately 2cm apart to treat the area.  The needles are tiny, the injections are not deep and most patients report tolerable discomfort rather than pain.
