ENERPEEL® is the peel brand of choice in many of the Uk’s leading private skin clinics. ENERPEEL® are a form of chemical peels that focus on achieving activity inside the skin rather than on the skin surface, so the emphasis is on remodelling, restructuring, rejuvenating, reducing sun and age damage and controlling skin problems such as acne, rosacea, thread veins, pigmentation problems and many others. Surface activity is limited and controlled by only releasing the full effect of the ingredients once they have been absorbed across the stratum corneum. This is a unique mechanism. Also, restraining the active peel components in a carrier solution allows greater levels of absorption of the active ingredients across the stratum corneum.
ENERPEEL® is a carrier solution which restrains the key ingredients and their strength of activity and can be adjusted to release the ingredients at the desired skin depth for maximal results. However, this is not a buffered peel. This mechanism of action minimises surface trauma which can cause reddening, frosting, peeling and downtime, but maximises the activity in the skin to promote improved skin structure and function. Ultimately, the ENERPEEL® system aims to correct many skin issues efficiently and far more effectively than standard peels by triggering gene expression of matrix remodelling components.
Peels Tailored for the Individual Skin Need
The 10 different ENERPEEL® systems contain specific ingredient combinations to target the active treatment components to each individual skin condition. This includes supplementing the skin with the specific skin condition treating ingredients. For example, the antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and oil-reducing agents which slow down oil production and reduce inflammation, alongside Salicylic Acid which removes debris and surface oil and opens up blocked hair follicle ducts in the treatment of acne.
ENERPEEL® is boosted and supported by the TEBISKIN cytoceuticals (cyto – focusing on optimising the activity of cells) which prepare the skin and promote even greater results by maximising the effect of the peels and the response of the key cells within the skin:
Gene Expression and Enzyme Activation
ENERPEEL® has been scientifically proven to successfully and significantly activate the skin-remodelling enzymes, such as zymogen which is converted to MMP, necessary for complete remodelling. Clinical studies show that an ENERPEEL® based solution does this more effectively than the same ingredients delivered by a standard solution. ENERPEEL® also increases the activity of enzymes which produce key skin ingredients such as hyaluronic acid.
ENERPEEL® systems are supported by research and results from clinical trials. We have specific treatment protocols for every skin condition; from acne to rosacea, from dark eyes to loose skin, and from cellulite to thread veins. All protocols have been properly researched and evaluated by leading dermatological research centres across Europe.
What is so amazing about the Jessner’s or JR peel?
EnerPeel® JR is a specially modified Jessner’s solution (from the name of the American dermatologist who popularised this combination) and utilises a beta and an alpha hydroxy acid combined with resorcinol, a phenol derivative: all delivered using the EnerPeel® Carrier Molecule technology.
Enerpeel® JR treats hyperpigmentation, Actinic keratosis, Hyperkeratosis, Chrono and Photo ageing. EnerPeel® utilises unique carrier molecules which bind to all the active ingredients, holding them in check (not active) on contact and only on absorption are the active ingredients released which means you will have little to no downtime and no obvious signs that you have had a chemical peel; this is something our customers love.
This means the key resorcinol and lactic acid ingredients, which slow down pigment production and remove existing pigment in skin cells, reach the melanocytes (pigment containing cells) and exert a powerful pigment control effect. These peels are supported by keeping the resorcinol levels high utilising Tebiskin Lightening cream which also contains three other pigment reducing ingredients and is comparable in effect to a 4% hydroquinone , but does not contain any hydroquinone or any derivatives of hydroquinone.
What is the TCA CROSS technique?
We have adopted one of our scar management protocols directly from one of the world’s foremost authorities on acne and scar treatment, Professor Chou. Although most types of scars respond very well to the DermapenFNS device alone, certain scars will need more. With box scars and ice-pick scars, we employ DermapenFNS combined with an EnerPeel® TCA CROSS (Chemical Reconstruction Of Skin Scars). The 40% TCA in an Enerpeel carrier solution is delivered into the scar ‘hole’ and causes the scar to scab over and the ‘hole’ fills with scar tissue. The scar tissue can then be revised using dermal needling. (See also Chemical Peel FAQ on how Enerpeels work). Needling the skin just prior to the TCA CROSS initiates skin matrix degradation and rebuilding and then only needling is repeated after four to six weeks.
Scars which are tethered or depressed (due to being held down by adhesions or ‘tethers’) will not respond without releasing the scar tissue from its ‘tethers’ allowing the skin to lift and flatten. Thus, subcision is the standard practice before needling these scars and delivers excellent results. See separate FAQ on this.
How do chemical peels work? The solution applied to your skin will lead to accelerated skin cell turnover by inducing the damage-inflammation-repair process. It is during the inflammation stage that you may experience peeling and some redness of the skin. After this, there is a resulting thickening of the epidermis (top layer of the skin), as well as deposition of collagen and structural reorganisation in the dermis (below the epidermis), making this layer thicker too. These changes even out the skin and give it a fresher and more radiant appearance. The Enerpeel® system does far much more and with 50% less redness and peeling!
Superficial chemical peel
You will notice immediate but subtle improvements at first, but that healthy glow will increase with more treatments.
If you have uneven pigment, dryness, acne or fine wrinkling, a light chemical peel might be the right choice. This kind of peel removes just the outer layer of skin (epidermis) in a light exfoliation and results in a healthier glow. Your doctor or nurse will use a combination of alphahydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids, such as glycolic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid and maleic acid. All of these chemicals are the mildest choices. We use only top branded products from ranges such as Neostrata® and Enerpeel®
Medium chemical peel
Your skin will be noticeably smoother and fresher-looking.
Acne scars, deeper wrinkles and uneven skin colour can all be treated with a medium chemical peel. The chemicals used for this type of peel will remove skin cells from both the outer layer of skin (epidermis) and upper part of your middle layer of skin (dermis). We will use unique treatment protocols to aim for the best result possible. Medium-Deep chemical peel More significant signs of ageing or perhaps scarring can be significantly reduced. With the Enerpeel® system, we can achieve an even deeper medical-grade peel treatment, whilst avoiding the significant downtime traditionally associated with this. Following your skin consultation, if your needs require a deep peel, we can provide you with a tailored treatment protocol administered by our nurse or doctor.
Treatments will take approximately 15-30 minutes. As we only offer superficial to medium peel treatments, you will not feel any pain. You should feel a sensation referred to as “stingling” which as it suggests, is a mixture of light stinging with a tingling feeling. Once the neutraliser is applied towards the end of the treatment, the stingling will settle down. You can expect 1-4 days of light peeling after a superficial peel and 4-7 days of peeling and some redness after a medium peel. Occasionally it can take longer for the skin to return to a normal appearance. It is vital to use an appropriate sunblock after treatments and your nurse will explain all necessary post-treatment advice to you.
Is there a peel that will give me good results but still little downtime?
Actually there are a number of options within the Enerpeel range that will achieve this aim. However, Enerpeel® Pyruvic Acid (PA) is a version of the frequently used but so underestimated pyruvic acid chemical peel in a patented Enerpeel® Carrier skin remodelling solution. It is commonly used to treat a wide range of skin issues, including fine lines, wrinkles, hyper-pigmentation issues as well as oily skin.
As it is contained in an Enerpeel® solution, the acid isn’t released until it is absorbed into the skin so minimises surface activity. Remodelling takes place in the skin, not on the skin.
So here is the science on the PA peel (Enerpeel Pyruvic Acid ~50%) for those who wish to know:
Targets the fibroblasts (cells that make collagen) in the dermis and is less confrontationary with keratinocytes.
Remarkable results with fewer side effects.
Effective chemical exfoliation that generates extremely mild erythema that generally disappears just after a few hours post application, but delivers the power of remodelling to the dermal layer.
This effective “soft peel” allows the patient to resume their daily normal activities immediately after the procedure.
The alternative to TCA but less downtime, also slows oil so good for T zones, the double layer PA is an amazing remodelling treatment.
Exfoliation occurs after approximately two to four days, it is not intense and is easily controlled with the use of Tebiskin Hyal and/or EGF which boosts hyaluronic acid production and also stimulates increased fibroblast numbers.
Superficial peels can be repeated weekly for up to six weeks to achieve your desired result. However, many clients choose to have just one or two treatments and may then come back every 3-6 months to maintain their fresh look and improved skin health. Medium or medium-deep peels are usually limited to a course of 4 peels, 7-14 days apart. Preparation products will be recommended to allow you to get the most out of the peel treatment, as well as products to help maintain your improved skin, after the last peel.
You will have a thorough skin consultation with our Doctor or Aesthetic Therapist and the appropriate peel treatment will be advised for your skin. Dr Patel can also discuss all the management options available for specific skin conditions such as rosacea and acne.
