Tear Trough Filler

Incredible advancements in filler technology combined with the team’s 20 years experience with fillers, allow us to address a wide array of concerns. This includes the tear trough. Areas around the eyes and upper face e.g the temples are often ignored, however this makes a dramatic yet subtle difference when addressed.  Our speciality is to design a personal plan to make small subtle changes in multiple areas to create a significant but natural looking result.

There are deep fat compartments on the face which anchor the skin. Early on in the ageing process, these compartments start slipping downwards, resulting in the overlying skin to lose its support. The skin therefore moves downwards as well. One of the first to slip down is the under eye compartment. This can result in a number of problems including eye hollows. These concerns are all candidates to be treated with Tear Trough filler.

Although Tear Trough filler achieves amazing results on its own, it can be combined with Plexr or Morpheus8. This delivers superior skin tightening in the target areas such as the upper or lower eyelid and crows feet.

What to expect

  • After dermal filler treatment you might experience slight redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness and/or a numb sensation in the area treated. You might wish to gently apply bagged ice or a cold compress to the injection area after treatment to help reduce swelling.
  • It is normal to feel “firmness” in the treatment area for the first few days; over time the area will soften.
  • These possible side effects are usually mild and related to the procedure. They are generally short term and disappear within the first few days after treatment.

  • Avoid alcohol, strenuous exercise or excessive sun exposure, for at least 24 hours post-treatment or until any swelling subsides.
  • Avoid make-up over injected areas for 12 hours. If you must use this, please apply the iConceal or Arbonne medical foundation as it encourages the healing process.
  • It is normal to have some swelling after treatment and this may give you an imbalanced appearance. It is best not to assess your results for at least 72 hours or until all swelling has subsided. Applying an ice pack to the treated area 2-3 times a day will help settle the swelling. If you have bruising, use cold packs for the first 48 hours and then heat thereafter, to help disperse the bruise.
  • If you notice any soft lumps, you may firmly massage these with some serum or suitable oil. If there is no improvement, call during the working day for advice.
  • You will be provided with an out of hours contact number if there were any skin colour changes or visual disturbances.

I'm confused about which filler I need and where.....how do I decide?

A thorough face-to-face consultation is essential to allow a mutually agreed personalised treatment plan to be made. Only then can you make a sensible decision of how to proceed. We understand that budget is an important consideration for most clients and the treatment plan can be adjusted accordingly.

What are dermal fillers used for?

Dermal fillers are excellent for superficial to deep lines and volume loss; the results are instant and truly impressive. One treatment can take many years off your face. You can also add subtle shape and volume to your lips using fillers. More advanced assessment and techniques can also allow for nose and chin correction and other adjustments to facial structure and features. There are many different fillers on the market but Dr Patel uses only NON-permanent fillers and only the most reputable and trusted brands e.g. Radiesse Plus®. Treatments are generally quite comfortable and very well tolerated by clients.

What exactly is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance found in the body that helps to hydrate and add volume to our skin. Natural hyaluronic acid is broken down by the body in one or two days so is constantly replaced—as we age this replacement mechanism diminishes so the moisturising and plumping effects of hyaluronic acid decrease. Hyaluronic acid is used for aesthetic treatments but is also used by doctors for injection into arthritic joints to aid movement, as well as eye surgery.

Will the procedure hurt?

The smooth consistency of the fillers we use will allow your clinician to administer the product easily and smoothly. It also contains local anaesthetic to reduce injection pain for a more comfortable experience. Local anaesthetic cream may also be offered for you to use prior to treatment to numb the skin. We can also offer an injectable nerve block for complete anaesthesia, if required.

Will I notice the difference right away?

Yes, the aesthetic results are immediate. You’ll see the results as soon as your appointment is over—and no one else needs to know! However, please note that with volume replacement, the maximal effect takes up to 6 weeks to be achieved. With some of the more advanced fillers, collagen production will also be stimulated; thus your new natural collagen will be around long after the filler has been broken down. Every customised treatment plan is different and so specific advice with regards to outcome, downtime and duration of effect, will be discussed at consultation.

Are there any side effects?

Following injection, you may experience slight redness, swelling or bruising at the injected area. Your medical practitioner will advise on this. Please be assured that these side effects should not last and, after waiting 12 hours following treatment, can be easily covered up with your usual makeup. However, do not hesitate to get in touch with us if in the unlikely event these reactions last longer than a week, or if you experience other side effects. All skin injection procedures carry a small risk of infection. This topic will be discussed more fully during your consultation.

Is there anything I need to know before I have the treatment?

We advise you to avoid using Alcohol, aspirin, Ibuprofen, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and a range of dietary supplements including; St. Johns Wort, fish oils, Gingko Biloba, Vitamins C and E- may all contribute to bruising and are best avoided 24 hours before treatment (unless they are taken for chronic medical conditions).

All make up will need to be removed prior to treatment, so please come ‘fresh faced’ if possible. Treatment cannot be administered if there is an active skin infection, including cold sores etc. Do contact the clinic to discuss any illness or new medicines prior to attending.

Ask your medical practitioner if you have any concerns.
