Soft Surgery

Unfortunately, over the last decade, more and more clinical conditions have been removed from the NHS funding list, leaving patients without a cost-effective option for surgical management.

Dr Patel and his team have over a decade of post-graduate skin surgery experience, having performed many procedures to date, in the NHS and as well as privately. His primary principle is to do the least possible to get the job done, thereby ensuring the best possible cosmetic outcome. He employs a variety of specialized skin surgical techniques to achieve this aim. All surgical procedures are carried out in our purpose-built surgical suite.

Please note that we now offer full excision surgery at this facility (i.e. cutting deep into skin and placing stitches). This is usually only required for cysts or suspicious moles.  If your specimen requires histological examination, private lab fees will apply. This will be discussed prior to the procedure.

This is dependent on the site of surgery, type of lesion removed and technique
used. You will usually be advised to apply petroleum jelly (Vaseline) from a new
pot, to the wound, to aid healing. It is best to avoid getting the wound site wet for
24-48 hours but specific advice will be given to you at the time of the procedure.

Do you treat children?

Yes we do. Assuming that surgery is appropriate, the primary deciding factor is
whether your child can tolerate the local anaesthetic injection. Usually, children
aged 10 and above are suitable but a thorough consultation is required first and
the final decision (assuming parent/guardian and child are happy to proceed)
rests with Dr Patel.

I am on blood-thinning medication; can I still have surgery?

In theory yes you can. However, Dr Patel will need full details of all your
medication and medical history at the consultation, to allow him to best advise
you on how things can proceed. If you are on warfarin, please bring your
warfarin card with you, which gives information such as your recent and target
INR values.

Please note, the above aftercare is just a guide. Full aftercare advice will be given to you when you attend your appointment with us.
