When is the right time to begin a skincare routine?
For a skin care virgin, starting a routine can be a daunting process and hard to fit into your day-to-day schedule. When it comes to skincare there is no “too young” or “too old”. From the day we are born every day after we are getting older. Even a new born baby will have creams and lotions applied. From puberty onwards every person should have a routine of some sort, whether this is simply using a face wash in the morning during your shower or putting on an SPF every day before you leave your house.
For someone who is just starting out, here are some of my top tips to help you begin your skincare journey:
- Find a clinic you trust and have a skin care consultation with a professional. They will advise you on what will be good for your skin. They may even put together a step-by-step routine for you to follow at home.
- Start from the basics and build it up over time. A Skin cleanser or wash accompanied with a moisturiser that suits your skin and a good SPF is a great place to start. When you get into a habit of using these products daily you will be ready to start introducing more advanced skincare products like serums including Vitamin C and Retinoids.
- Give it time! It can take up to 12 weeks before you will start seeing the results from even just 1 product.
- Consistency is key. You need to follow your routine daily and stick to this. You wouldn’t go to work or school without cleaning your teeth, so why would you go without first looking after your skin.
In conclusion, the skin is the biggest organ in the human body and we need to take care of it. By starting young you are setting yourself good habits that you will be more likely to continue for the rest of your life. An investment in your skin is an investment in yourself. Seek advice from a professional and you will be well on your way.
