Tattoo Removal

PicoMax Laser is the world’s most advanced tattoo removal laser technology that can address ALL colours. Using the PicoMax laser we can reduce the appearance and even in some cases remove unwanted tattoos over a series of sessions using a Picosecond Nd:YAG Laser.

Tattoo removal is performed using the PicoMax laser to break the ink particles down into smaller particles, which over time are absorbed into the bloodstream and safely passed out of the body allowing the tattoo to fade away. Immune cells found in the Dermis layer of the skin, Dermal Macrophages, work to collect and break down micro-debris in the skin. For tattoo removal, Dermal Macrophages collect and store the larger particles of ink that are harder to break down. When the particles are broken down smaller by the lasers, they can be more easily removed from the body.

Key applications;

  • The PicoMax laser works in ‘picoseconds’ which is one trillionth of a second, which means it releases light energy faster, which reduces the risk of damaging the surrounding skin tissue
  • By delivering higher energy laser beams it clears pigmentation faster and more effectively, resulting in fewer treatment sessions
  • Different pigments have certain light absorption ranges, the PicoMax laser can treat ALL tattoo ink colours. For the best results, the easiest inks to treat are darker black and blue inks, however, with our laser, we are also able to treat all coloured inks.

A tattoo laser like the PicoMax must be able to emit the suitable energy within the absorption spectrum for the particular pigment in order to give an effective treatment.

The energy, spot size and repetition rate used to treat will be determined during a patch test and consultation. During the consultation the therapist will determine;

  • The age of the tattoo
  • Tattoo type
  • Pigment type
  • Ink concentration and,
  • Pigment depth.

These factors will also help to determine roughly the number of sessions needed. During the treatment, the laser beam will penetrate through the skin, targeting the ink and breaking it down. Some people may see results immediately however most of the time the tattoo will fade gradually during the healing period which is between 8 and 10 weeks.

The recovery time can vary from person to person. Some people don’t even notice any redness, while others struggle with the sore skin for a while.

Immediately after the procedure, the affected skin area is prone to side effects like redness, swelling, and blistering. You can put a cold compress on the area to feel more comfortable if necessary. However, you should keep in mind not to rub or scratch the affected skin.

Usually, the skin will calm down within 24 hours. Until then, you will be advised not to apply makeup or put on any mask or skincare product that could irritate your skin.
