According to the annual report* from the BAAPS, invasive cosmetic surgery is on the decline, and non surgical anti ageing treatments are reportedly on the rise.
This is the first time an overall decrease in surgical cosmetic procedures such as anti ageing facelifts, neck lifts, eye bag removal and brow lifts have been on the decline, with the safety organisation reporting a 40% drop in patients seeking invasive cosmetic surgery treatments.
In their report, which is released once a year to give an insight into the trends of this exciting industry, a spokesperson for the BAAPS suggested that the rise in non surgical anti-ageing treatments is likely behind the fall in invasive options being considered by patients – most notably women – with more no scalpel options available than ever before.
Popular non surgical anti ageing treatments – which have been on the rise in the UK for some time now – include dermal fillers (used to smooth lines and wrinkles, improve facial volume, or contour areas of the face), muscle relaxing injections, non-surgical facelift techniques including soft surgery and thread lifting, and energy assisted skin tightening and wrinkle reduction.
Dr Dev Patel, medical director and cosmetic doctor at perfect skin solutions, says the surge in non-surgical treatments over invasive surgical options is all part of the evolving cosmetic and landscape.
