iPRF (Injectable Platelet Rich Fibrin)

iPRF harnesses one of the most powerful regenerative components of your own blood with a simple injection into the treatment area. It is a fantastic treatment for many areas of the body such as the face for anti-ageing, the scalp for hair thinning/loss or intimate areas for laxity, incontinence and other symptoms.

iPRF (Injectable Platelet Rich Fibrin) is the next generation in anti-ageing and surpasses the better known Platelet Rich Plasma, by a huge distance and has 100 times the circulating stem cells (CD34+) of the whole blood and 10-20 times that of bone marrow. Yet again, Perfect Skin Solutions is at the very forefront of the aesthetic industry. Our medical director, Dr. Dev Patel, has trained with the global regenerative expert and plastic surgeon, Mr. Ghanem, who introduced iPRF to the UK. Perfect Skin Solutions is one of the first clinics to roll this out beyond his practice.

Injectable platelet rich fibrin or (iPRF) uses the patient’s own blood plasma which is enriched with:

  • platelets (source of healing proteins and growth factors)
  • fibrin (the wound healing and regeneration matrix)
  • stem cells (the conductors of our body’s own healing and regenerative orchestra of healing and regeneration molecules).

Patented technology invented by Dr. Joseph Choukroun in 2016, allows us to isolate various fractions from whole blood taken from the patient. This can then be injected via a very fine needle (technique used in mesotherapy) into the area(s) of concern, to activate healing and regeneration. Although this is from the patient’s own body, no area would naturally get exposure to such a potent concentration of biostimulating and regenerative cells. However, the process that is triggered is totally innate and natural.
iPRF intensifies the functioning and reproduction of cells, thus having a gentle, gradual yet long lasting and accumulative effect. As a result, new fibroblasts, collagen and elastin tissues are formed, skin elasticity and complexion is improved, and the pigmentation is reduced. Its uses are not limited to skin rejuvenation.

Potential uses:

  • Skin rejuvenation
  • Scarring
  • Stretch marks
  • Hair loss/thinning
  • Vaginal rejuvenation
  • Acne
  • Procedures – enhancing results and reducing downtime
  • Joint and soft tissue disorders eg tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis

iPRF (Injectable Platelet Rich Fibrin)

FAQ

Both PRP (platelet rich plasma), and PRF (platelet rich fibrin) are platelet based growth factor treatments that are extracted using a centrifuge. PRF is different from PRP in that there is no anticoagulant added during the spin, the avoidance of clotting is physiological and is achieved through the negative charge of the collecting tube to mimic the conditions within our own blood vessels (their lining is negatively charged) that prevent fibrin from creating a clot within them, thus obtaining a platelet rich injectable fibrin. Once iPRF is injected into the tissue it transforms from a liquid into a gel, which not only leads to the filling of voids in folds and wrinkles but also provides a powerful regenerative matrix that releases platelets’ growth factors in a physiologically controlled, slow manner that enhances tissue regeneration. This makes iPRF a more effective treatment than PRP.

Yes. Injury to any human tissue (ageing is also injury) will immediately result in platelet growth factors in a fibrin scaffold and this is the first response to injury observed in all human tissue. Accelerated healing, new blood vessels and proliferation of cells producing collagen (fibroblasts) have been well demonstrated in biomedical research investigating the basic functions of these regenerative products. Even its predecessor, PRP, has been shown to significantly accelerate healing in tissues and is widely used in the aesthetic field too.

Dr Choukroun explains that Fibrin functions as a matrix that traps the platelets and controls their release of growth factors “very slowly and continuously over a time period of more than one week”. The growth factors release rate into the target tissue is important for tissue receptors to respond over a prolonged period of time following treatment. “It’s not the amount of growth factors that’s the most important, but the tempo in which it is released into the site.”

iPRF is a natural way to help male and female hair thinning. iPRF can enhance the growth of hair follicles by stimulating the stem cells and other cells in the microenvironment of the hair follicle. These special platelet cells promote healing and accelerate the rate and degree of tissue regeneration, resulting in new hair growth and thickening of existing hair.
