Hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation is where patches of the skin can become darker than the surrounding skin. It is a fairly common complaint for all skin types and is generally very treatable and harmless. For some people, having uneven skin colour can make them feel self-conscious.

There are different causes of your hyperpigmentation, from acne or skin injury creating post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) or from sunspots (age spots) or melasma from hormonal changes/pregnancy. It is important to consider how the pigmentation occurred and this will be discussed in consultations, so we know how’s best to treat it. At Perfect Skin Solutions we want a long-term solution, not a quick fix so we will help manage the reason you first got the pigmentation in the first place, ie reduced oil/sebum production if caused by acne to help reduce new breakouts appearing, lighten the pigmentation and prevent it coming back with a good physical filter SPF and or maintenance treatments.

FAQ

You need to have a consultation with one of our Doctors or Therapists to have a better idea of this. Information on this page and via the treatment links above will give you a better understanding of the technology and what each treatment entails. We do encourage you to read all relevant FAQs. However, only after consultation, can a tailored treatment plan be devised. You can then go home and have some thinking time, before committing to any procedure.

It is not always possible to prevent hyperpigmentation, as there are different causes that can trigger a change in an individual’s pigment. However, you can help to prevent sun damage pigmentation by wearing an SPF that is a broad spectrum which will protect you from UVA and UVB rays.
