Kiss lines

More commonly referred to as Smoker’s Lines, these are not exclusive to smokers but much more prevalent in them due to the expression required to smoke a cigarette i.e. pouting. The alternative and probably nicer term, is “Kiss Lines”. These lines are above the upper lip and certainly add years to one’s appearance.

Static kiss lines (lines which appear without the need to pout) are best treated with dermal filler or even a combination of filler and BTX-A. However, some excellent results are seen with skin peels, radio-frequency skin tightening and also skin resurfacing treatment with Dermapen™. Dr Patel will advise on your best option of management after a facial assessment.

Cosmeceuticals

Cosmeceuticals are medical-grade cosmetic products, scientifically formulated to get active ingredients to the target area within the skin. Although fake products can be found on the internet, UK distributors will only supply these products to clinics like ours, as it is important to match the correct product(s) with your skin type and need. We receive consistently positive feedback from clients who use recommended skincare products. Continued use also helps maintain the benefits of your treatment(s) eg fighting on-going sun damage or controlling rosacea once settled. Read some of the truths about skin creams, in our FAQ section below!

BTX-A (Anti Wrinkle Injections)

Botulinum Toxin-A (e.g. Botox or Bocouture) remains the number one anti-ageing treatment, primarily used for PREVENTION & TREATMENT of lines & wrinkles. We aim to give you a natural result; we do not support the frozen look. We also use this for other concerns eg armpit sweating, teeth grinding/TMJ pain and migraine. A safe and effective product used by millions of patients. In our experience, “Botox” is still very misunderstood, even amongst patients who have been having it for some years. We often hear in consultation that “no-one has ever told me that when I have had Botox before!” Let us introduce you to a truly expert approach to this popular treatment.

Botulinum Toxin A is available in a number of different brands. We offer two of the leading brands Botox and Bocouture, at the same price. A number of high quality, double-blind, randomised, controlled, split-face trials have shown that effectiveness and duration of effect are equal with these 2 brands. However, with a heavy emphasis on practising evidence-based medicine, our strong belief is that Bocouture is now the Gold Standard product to use. The main reason is that it is the only brand which does NOT contain complexing proteins. These proteins can be responsible for the immune system mounting a response that produces antibodies, rendering the treatment ineffective.

Benefits of Bocouture:

  • Vegan-friendly
  • Free of complexing proteins
  • Stored at room temperature so no need for environmentally UNFRIENDLY packaging eg polystyrene and ice packs
  • Free of human-derived products
  • Licensed for use in all 3 areas of the upper face

Chemical Peels

Gone are the days when the only immediate result one could expect from a medical-grade skin peel was 2-4 weeks of suffering painful, red, blistering skin. Technology has moved on and the clinical team at Perfect Skin Solutions have over 15 years experience in this area alone. Peels are one of the most effective methods to achieve a smoother and brighter complexion and our carefully selected range is certainly superior to salon treatments such as dermabrasion.

Kiss lines FAQs

What are dermal fillers used for?

Dermal fillers are excellent for superficial to deep lines and volume loss; the results are instant and truly impressive. One treatment can take many years off your face. You can also add subtle shape and volume to your lips using fillers. More advanced assessment and techniques can also allow for nose and chin correction and other adjustments to facial structure and features. There are many different fillers on the market but Dr Patel uses only NON-permanent fillers and only the most reputable and trusted brands e.g. Radiesse Plus®. Treatments are generally quite comfortable and very well tolerated by clients.

What exactly is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance found in the body that helps to hydrate and add volume to our skin. Natural hyaluronic acid is broken down by the body in one or two days so is constantly replaced—as we age this replacement mechanism diminishes so the moisturising and plumping effects of hyaluronic acid decrease. Hyaluronic acid is used for aesthetic treatments but is also used by doctors for injection into arthritic joints to aid movement, as well as eye surgery.

Will I notice the difference right away with Dermal fillers?

Yes, the aesthetic results are immediate. You’ll see the results as soon as your appointment is over—and no one else needs to know! However, please note that with volume replacement, the maximal effect takes up to 6 weeks to be achieved. With some of the more advanced fillers, collagen production will also be stimulated; thus your new natural collagen will be around long after the filler has been broken down.

What do chemical peels do?

Chemical peels resurface the skin by the application of various forms of acid to the skin to remove dead skin cells and stimulate the growth of new cells. As a result, chemical peels promote the growth of a new healthy top layer of skin and over time improve skin problems like hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, uneven texture and skin impurities.

What should I expect during a chemical peel?

Treatments will vary dependent on the type of peel chosen and the depth of the peel. The skin is first prepped and then the selected peel is applied and left on the skin typically from 3-10 minutes depending on patient comfort. It is normal to feel a mild tingling and heat sensation, this will normally subside after a few minutes. Some peels are self neutralizing so will be left on the skin after leaving the clinic to safely neutralize on their own in time.

Is iPixel resurfacing laser good for Kiss lines?

Unlike traditional ablative laser resurfacing, which burns the outer layer of skin, this new generation of treatment does minimal damage to the outer skin layer and thus minimises redness and downtime. The ablative element of the laser happens at a deep-skin layer and uses heat to stimulate collagen production. This triggers the body’s natural healing process to stimulate growth of new healthy skin tissue.
